Devaki

INTRODUCTION

Devaki is the daughter of Devak, the sister of Kamsa, wife of Vasudeva  and the original mother of Lord Krishna.

Since, king Kamsa had heard a divine voice from the sky that he is going to be killed by the eighth child of Devaki, he tortured them and killed their seven children, and put them in prison. And their eighth child Krishna was safely shifted to the palace of Nandagopa at Gokulam by Vasudeva. And Nandagopa’s female child was replaced in place of Krishna. While he attempted to kill the eighth child, the child which is the divine avatar of Mata Parvati, arouses into the sky, and gave an alarm to him, that his killer is living in another region and disappeared into the sky. For a few years they remained imprisoned by Kamsa, and badly suffered by his cruel acts.

Devaki and Vasudeva's imprisonment came to an end after the death of Kamsa, in the hands of Lord Krishna.

Through the grace of Lord Krishna, Devaki has seen her seven children which were brought from Patala. She affectionately fed them with milk and after that they had attained heaven.

After the death of her husband Vasudeva, Devaki cremates herself on Vasudeva's pyre.

In the state of Goa, Devaki Krishna Sansthan temple is a famous temple, since it is the only temple in India where Lord Krishna is worshiped along with his mother Devaki.

Let us worship the holy mother and be blessed.
