ATMAN

ATMAN

INTRODUCTION

Atman means our inner self or soul. Realisation of one’s Atman is very essential in order to attain salvation. Among various types of bhakti, self- realisation is given prime importance, since if we follow this concept, we can see the god in our soul itself. Ancient sages and saints have seen the almighty from their soul, only after performing several years of meditation. Due to that, they have got enlightenment, and they also taught their disciples, the significance of self-realisation. The great Dhruva and Prahalada have seen Lord Vishnu, through their souls, due to their sincere bhakti on Vishnu.

If we properly learn yoga and meditation, and if we adopt it in daily practice, we can gradually realise the god from our soul itself. We have to practice the concept of self-realisation of god, from our young age onwards, in order to get familiar with that, during our later days of life. The Hindu schools of Dharma, preaches, that in all souls, god is dwelling there permanently. For knowing about the presence of god within ourselves, we have to remove the bad habits like ego, lust, anger, greed and enmity.

The great Rishi Narada taught the concepts of self-realisation to other sages, and made them to realize the presence of god everywhere in this world. In our ancient Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads, the concept of reaching the abode of god, is mentioned. Only if we realize the god in our soul, we would be able to attain salvation. If we try to attain salvation in other simple ways, then we would be put up in heaven only for a few hundred years, and then after the completion of our good karmas, we would again take birth in this earth, and must have to suffer a lot.

Hence, in order to permanently stay at the abode of the almighty, first we must have to find him inside our soul, and we must consider all other creations of the god as the incarnations of the god. One thing we should remember is, GOD is always GOLD, and hence, instead of keeping attachment with worldly affairs like Wealth and sensual pleasures, we must have to keep our attention on the almighty, and must build a temple for god in our soul.
