Savata Mali

INTRODUCTION : 

Savata Mali was a Hindu saint and an ardent devotee of Lord Vithoba. He was born in 1250 in a village near pandharpur. He was a friend and an admirer of Namdev, a devotee of Vithoba.

At his younger age itself, Savata has got married to a pious and a holy lady from a nearby village named Janabai, who is also a great devotee of Lord Vithoba. Savata Mali has got sufficient agricultural lands. Even while working in his fields he will used to sing about the glory of Lord Vithoba. It is believed that Savata Mali and his wife Janabai had got the darshan of Lord Vithoba in their house. A temple is also dedicated to him in his native place.

He used to conduct regular bhajans and performs pujas to Lord Vithoba. He never had his food without offering it to the god. And he also has got the habit of donating food to the poor people in his village and in the nearby villages. He will forget about the entire world, while involving in deep prayers on Lord Vithoba. People realized his pure bhakti on the god and gave much respect to him. His sincere bhakti on the god is unimaginable in this today’s modern world. He had donated most of his belongings for the welfare of the poor people. He also donated clothes and provided shelters to the poor at his own cost. He sold his lands also for doing various noble activities. He died in the year 1295, at the age of 45. It is believed that after his death, he attained SALVATION and reached VAIKUNTA, the holy abode of Lord Vishnu.

IMPORTANCE

Being a sincere devotee of Lord Vithoba, he never hated any one and never showed his angriness over others. He had given proper respect to his wife “JANABAI” and showed his full love and affection on her. He spent his most of his time in singing the songs of Lord Vithoba and worships him at his temple. Whenever, he engages in deep devotion, joyful tears will flow from his eyes, and he will concentrate his entire attention on Lord Vithoba.
