PADMAKOMALAI - CONSORT OF SURAPADMA

PADMAKOMALAI - CONSORT OF SURAPADMA

INTRODUCTION

Padmakomalai was the consort of Demon Surapadman, and she is considered as a chaste and a pious queen. Their son was Banukopan, and he was killed by Lord Muruga during the war. She was a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva and requested her consort to give respect to Lord Shiva and Parvati, and their son Lord Muruga. Though Surapadman had tortured the divine demi gods, and made them as slaves to him, she requested her husband, to treat the demi gods in a worshipful manner.

But Surapadman didn’t hear her words, and finally was defeated by Lord Muruga, and due to the grace of Muruga, he has become peacock and still he is serving as a divine vehicle to Lord Muruga. It is believed that after the death of Surapadman, Ma Padmakomalai had entered into the pyre of her husband, and she was granted salvation by Lord Shiva and Shakti due to her Pati Bhakti.

Ancient queens were very holy and chaste women, and they have even sacrificed their lives for the welfare of their husbands. Though sometimes, their consorts were treated them rudely, but they didn’t get angry with them, but faced the troubles with a smile. Due to that, they were considered similar to Rishi Pathnis, and after their death, they have reached the divine worlds. They have got sufficient powers even to burn their enemies with their eyes. They have acted as a dutiful wife to their husbands, and they didn’t think that their husbands are treating them as slaves.

We can take Ma Parvati as the best example for chaste and pious women, who used to come down to the earth, whenever Lord Shiva curses her. She used to meditate Lord Shiva for several years in the earth, and as a result, she has got a portion of body of Lord Shiva. But nowadays, due to the changing scenario in the present day modern world, we cannot expect women to serve their husbands similar to the ancient women. But, however all the women must be highly respected and they must be considered similar to our mother, sister and daughter, and we must realize that all the women contain the aspect of Ma Shakti Devi.
