Satyavati

INTRODUCTION :

Satyavati was the consort of the Hastinapur King Shantanu  and she was the great-grandmother of the Pandavas and Kauravas. She is the mother of the great sage Vyasa, who is the author of Mahabharata.

In her previous birth, she was a celestial dancer, and due to a curse, she had taken the birth as Satyavati. She was adopted by a fisherman, and she lived along with her father on the banks of the holy river Yamuna. Once Satyavati met the great sage Parashara, and through his union, Rishi Veda Vyasa was born to her. Through his great powers, Rishi Parashara had made her to become a beautiful woman.

After some time, King Shantanu met Satyavati and fell in love with her and got married. Through him, Satyavati had two children, Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. Since both of her sons died without children, she made her son Vyasa, to father the children of her daughter-in-laws. The children are Dhritarashtra and Pandu and they are the fathers of the Kauravas and Pandavas. After the death of Pandu, Satyavati went to the forest and done penance and died before the beginning of the Kurukshetra War.

Let us worship the divine mother and be blessed.
