Swarna Dhanam

INTRODUCTION :

Swarna dhanam means donating gold, either in the form of gold coins or in the form of ornaments. This type of donation usually would be done to the temples like Thirumala, Sabarimala and Guruvayur. We can give gold to the temples by approaching the temple authorities and can ask for their requirement. During the wedding of Lord Venkateswara, gold was given by Lord Kubera. It is believed that still Lord Venkateswara was repaying his debts to Kubera through our donation.

By donating gold, we can get the divine blessings of Ma Lakshmi Devi, the goddess of wealth. Gold is considered as one of the most precious things in the world, and it is loved even by the Divine Devas in the heaven. We can also donate gold to the ancient and historical temples, and we must have to obtain proper receipt from the temple authorities after making the donation. Apart from donating gold to the temples, we can also donate gold in the marriage of poor and underprivileged girls, by considering them as the incarnations of Ma Shakti Devi. Donating gold for Mangal Sutra also known Thirumangalyam is considered as a very sacred act, and by doing that, all types of our doshams would be removed, and we would get great strength in our mind and body.

We can also donate gold coins to the school children studying in remote villages of India. By doing that, we can find a cheerful smile in their face, and it is also a kind of motivation for them. Donating gold to the orphanages is also considered as a good act.  As per the sayings of Bhagavan Krishna in his Bhagavat Gita, “Do charity to others as much as you can”. He also further tells, “I would permanently dwell in the souls of those persons who always think about the welfare of others”.

Hence let us donate gold to the temples, to social welfare institutions and to the poor girls.
