Trivikrama Temple

INTRODUCTION :

Ulagalantha Perumal Temple also known as Trivikrama Temple is a   temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Tirukovilur, Tamil Nadu. It was constructed with great architectural skills, and the importance of this temple is mentioned in the Divya Prabandham. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam, and Lord Vishnu is worshiped as Ulagalantha Perumal and his consort Mata Lakshmi as Poongothai. The temple is constructed by Chola Kings, and later renovated by Vijayanagar and Madurai Kings. The temple is considered as one of the biggest temple in tamil nadu.

As per ancient legend, Lord Vishnu took the avatar of Vamana during the Treta Yuga, in order to send Mahabali, the Demon King to Patala Loka, who is also the grand-son of Bhakt Prahalad. Vamana took birth to the rishi couples, and visited the yagna of Mahabali, and asked him to donate three foot of land for him. When Bali decided to offer him the land requested by the Lord, the great Vamana has enlarged his size, and finally sent him to the nether world, the sutala loka. Even at that time also, King Mahabali, his son Namasu and his grand-father Prahalad were praying to the Lord with great devotion. Vamana has done this act, since he wants Lord Indra to rule over the Swarka Loka till Kali Yuga.

Actually Lord Vamana, has sent him to the sukala loka for doing only goodness to him. Since from the Treta yuga, he is the king for the Sutala Loka, and ruling the nether world in a good manner. He contains good health with great spiritual powers. It is believed that Lord Vishnu himself is guarding him in the sutala loka, and protecting him from his enemies. After the end of the Kali Yuga, during the next Krita Yuga, King Mahabali would be the next Indra, and would rule the Indra Loka for several lakhs of years in a prosperous manner.

The temple is visited by the great Alvar saints namely, Poigai Alvar, Bhoothathalvar and Peyalvar and sung by them, and they also attained salvation in this temple. The temple is regarded as one of the holy temples associated with Lord Vishnu.

Six daily rituals and twelve annual festivals are held at the temple, and among them, the chariot festival, celebrated during March–April, is the most important festival.

Apart from the main shrines of Vishnu and Lakshmi, there are separate shrines for Laskhmi Narayana, Lakshmi Narasimha, Varadaraja, Rama, Andal, Chakrathazwar, Vishvaksena, Manavala Mamuni and Ramanuja.

  • Chakra Theertham is located outside the temple, which is considered as very sacred.
  • Daily annadanam is also offered to the devotees in a pleasing manner.
  • Recently, I have visited this sacred temple, and got greater mental satisfaction and blessings from the divine god and goddess.
  • Let us visit and worship this holy temple at least once in a year and be blessed.
