Arulmigu Kalyana Subramanya Swamy Temple, Pachaimalai

Introduction

Arulmigu Subramanya Swamy Temple, Pachaimalai which is also known as the Pachaimalai Balamurugan Temple and as the Pachamalai Kalyana Subramanaya Swamy Temple is a famous hill temple located in GobichettipalayamTamil Nadu, and this beautiful temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan.

Gobichettipalayam is a wonderful town located in Erode District. This place contains Hills, and it is surrounded with excellent natural beauty, amidst beautiful trees, and some Tamil feature films were also produced in this city. My native place is also Gobichettipalayam, but, however, so far I haven’t visited this marvellous town.

According to legend, the great sage Durvasa, who was well known for his anger, had visited this temple in order to worship Lord Muruga. It is believed that at this temple, he has undergone severe meditation on Lord Murugan and he worshipped Sri Murugan as Lord Dhandayuthapani and installed a beautiful idol for him. In course of time, the temple was unnoticed by the people, and hence it went into a dilapidated state. But however, due to the noble service of a philanthropist, Mr. P. K. Kuppusamy Gounder, regular pujas and other festive events began to commence at the temple, and the temple was also repaired, renovated and extended during the year 1980.

Apart from the main shrine, The temple contains shrines dedicated to various deities like Sri Vidya GanapathyMaragatheeswarar,  MaragathavalliKalyana Subramanyar with His consorts Ma Valli and DeivanaiMaragatha Venkatesa Perumal  along with Ma Sridevi and Bhoodevi, Dakshinamurthi, Kalabhairavar, and the Navagraha shrine along with their beautiful consorts, who can be seen seated on their respective divine vehicles!

The chief deity of the temple is Sri Balamurugan who is in the form of Bala Dhandayuthapani. During festivals like Vaikasivisakam, Skanda Shasti and Kiruthigai, Abishekam, and special pujas are being performed for six consecutive days. Kalyana Urchavam, the divine marriage festival event is being performed for Lord Subramanya during Panguni Uthiram, Thai Poosam, and Skanda Shasti.

There is a sacred Kadamba Tree which is considered to be the temple tree at Pachaimalai. Seven pujas are being performed at various intervals on a daily basis at the temple. The annual Brahmotsavam festival of the temple is being celebrated in the month of Panguni. Lord Kalyana Subramanyar along with his consorts would be taken out for a procession around the hill on the first six days in different vehicles (Holy Mount).

During the auspicious Panguni Uthiram festival day, the temple would be visited by thousands and thousands of devotees, and they used to carry Milk Pal Kavadi on their shoulders, and they would perform the holy milk bath to Lord Subramanya. The temple chariot would be pulled out by the devotees during evening time, and Annadhanam would also be provided to the spiritually satisfied devotees, in order to fill up their stomach also!

The Skanda Shasti Soorasamharam festival event is also celebrated in the beautiful town of Gobichettipalayam. The festival represents the victory of the good over evil. Some devotees would also undergo the "Skanda Shasti Viratham", fasting, in order to show their true devotion on Lord Subramanya.

Those who remain unmarried or those who met up with marriage failures, must have to visit this beautiful Temple of Lord Subramanya, in order to lead a permanent, stress free, happy and satisfactory married life!
