Vengamamba

INTRODUCTION:


Vengamamba (1730–1817),  was a poet and a great devotee of Lord Venkateswara in the 18th century AD. She wrote lot of  poems and songs.

LIFE


Vengamamba was born into a family of brahmins in 1730, at Andhra Pradesh. Since childhood, she was an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara. Even after losing her husband at a younger age, she studied yoga, and she became a yogini, and went to Tirumala.

IMPORTANCE


She was allowed to enter the temple by the temple priests, after the temple hours, and was allowed to recite the poems, which was heard by Lord Venkateswara himself.  Venkamamba took 'Aarathi' to the Lord and she was also allowed to participate in the Ekanta seva. Her brindavan was still open for pilgrims worship at Tirumala.

CONCLUSION


Vengamamba a great saint and a poet, who made Lord Venkateswara to listen to her songs, through her bhakti, was still being worshipped by Lord Venkateswara devotees at Tirumala at her Brindavan. She acts as a role model for leading a spiritual life, and she lived in a very pious manner. A gentle, a soft spoken and a kind hearted woman, who hears the prayers of the devotees of Lord Venkateswara, and  is still blessing the devotees. Let us pray to her, and to Lord Venkateswara with pure bhakti and chant their names.
