SWAMI SANAND

INTRODUCTION :

Guru das Agrawal (1932-2018) who was also known as Sant Swami Sanand,  was an Indian environmental enthusiast, saint, professor and   he was the active participant of the Ganga Mahasabha, which was founded by Madan Mohan Malviya in the year 1905.

He has undergone many fasts to maintain cleanliness and to remove the garbage which were frequently thrown on River Ganga. Agrawal died in the year 2018, since he demanded the government to clean and purify the polluted River Ganga.

Agrawal was born in the family of farmers in a town in Uttar Pradesh in the year 1932. He had completed his degree in Civil engineering, and he served as a professor at the University of Roorkee.

In the year 2011, he has become a saint and he was called as Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand. Even after becoming a saint, Swami Sanand fought for the cleanliness of the Holy Mata River Ganges, and he had dedicated his life towards worshipping Mother Ganga.

According to him, the purity of the Ganges cannot be determined by the rulers of India, but it is an important matter of spirituality, and he further says, “Mata Ganga is our holy mother, who is removing our sins and giving all sorts of prosperities to us during our lifetime, and also gives us SALVATION after our death, and it is our duty to protect the holy Ma Ganga from pollution”. He also spoken to the pontiff of the holy mutts and tried his level best to purify the River Ganga. During the month of October 2018, he stopped drinking water and he had refused to take medicines, food and water. And due to that he died due to starvation, at the age of 86.

Agrawal's devotion to the River Ganges cannot be explained by us in words and cannot be imagined by anyone. For the welfare of the River Ganges, he had sacrificed his life itself. He has got such a great bhakti on Mata Ganges, and he can be considered similar to the great Bhishma, the mighty son of Mata Ganga Devi, who lived during the previous Dwapara Yuga.

Let us worship the great saint and the strong devotee of Ma Ganga and be blessed.
