The Holy Sage Shuka

The Holy Sage Shuka

Sage Shuka Maharishi was the son of the great sage Vyasa and the narrator of the Bhagavata Purana. The Bhagavata Purana contains the details of Shuka narrating the story of Bhagavata Purana to king Parikshit. He is also called as Shuka Brahmam.

According to the Mahabharata, Shuka was born with superior power. The Mahabharata tells us, that  Sage Shuka was sent by Vyasa, for getting spiritual training under the great king Janaka. Shuka was educated under Brahaspati, and from his own father, Sage Vyasa. Shuka was told by Janaka about the way to liberation, and Janaka has recommended him to follow four types ashramas, which includes the householder stage also. Due to Shuka's advanced state of self-realization, Janaka told him that there was no need for taking  the householder position in his case.

Shuka was surpassed his father in spiritual attainment. Shuka is sometimes considered as wandering in his naked body, due to his complete lack of self-consciousness, but fully filled up with spiritual energy in his body.

But according to Devi-Bhagavata Purana, it mentions that, Shuka was convinced by Janaka to  marry and to follow the path of yoga. After that,He got married and he has five children with his wife Pivari—four sons and a daughter. And after sometime, Shuka has attained Moksha.

There is a place which is called as Shukachari and it is said to be the cave of Shuka. Shuka means parrot and thus the name is derived from the large number of parrots found around the Shukachari hills.

LET US WORSHIP SAGE SHUKA WITH PURE BHAKTI AND BE BLESSED FOR OUR WELL BEING.
OM SREE SHUKA MAHARISHIYE NAMAHA.
