Atri

INTRODUCTION :

Atri is a Vedic sage, who has composed several hymns in praise of Lord Agni, Lord Indra and other Vedic deities of Hinduism. Atri is one of the Saptarishi and was mentioned as a great rishi in the Rigveda.

IMPORTANCE :

Some portions in Rigveda are attributed to him. The importance of Atri is mentioned in the Puranas and in the great epics Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Atri was married to Anasuya Devi. Lord Dattatreya was their son.  His wife Anasuya, was considered as one among the seven female pativiratas. In Treta Yuga during Ramayana, both of them met Lord Rama and Sita. Lord Dattatreya was born to them due to their sincere meditation on god. He was the avatar of trimurtis, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He contains very good features, and he lived a noble and a simple life. Sage Atri contains spiritual powers. He was blessed to have the god himself to be born as his divine son.

CONCLUSION :

Sage Atri has got very good qualities like offering annadanam, and protecting the people in times of distress, and drought. Through his divine power, he has helped the people to move towards the right direction, and lead them to the spiritual path. His wife Mata Anusuya is an incomparable woman, who is a pathini, and she also contains great powers, through her pathi bhakti. She behaved with her husband in a polite manner, and has done all of her duties with sincerity. She never spoke any harsh words against her husband. She acts as an example for others. Both of them were tested by the trimurtis, and through the powers of the trimurtis, Lord Dattatreya was born to them. Let us chant their holy names, and be blessed.
